On December 16, 2011, the Ocean City Fire Department responded to Coastal Highway and 142nd Street for a motor vehicle crash with vehicle fire and victim entrapment.
Crews arrived and found a serious two vehicle crash with two victims trapped and one vehicle on fire. Rescue personnel used Hurst Tools [the so-called "Jaws of Life"] to extract the subjects from the car. Both patients were removed from the vehicle within 12 minutes.
One 18-month old patient was flown to Peninsula Regional Medical Center [PRMC] by Maryland State Police Trooper 4 while two others went by ambulance to PRMC. Later, the 18-month victim was further transferred to Maryland Shock Trauma in Baltimore.
